The Great Blizzard of 1888

Η χιονοθύελλα γνωστή ως«The Great Blizzard of 1888» ήταν μια από τις πιο καταστροφικές στο πέρασμά της. 


Η Νέα Υόρκη παρέλυσε  για 2 ημέρες και το 1,5 μέτρο χιονιού, με τους δυνατούς ανέμους, οι οποίοι έπνεαν με ταχύτητα πάνω από 90 χιλιόμετρα, όπως έχει καταγραφεί, έφεραν το »μεγάλο λευκό τυφώνα» του 1888.

Στο πέρασμά του αφαίρεσε τις ζωές 400 ανθρώπων, εκ των οποίων οι 100 περίπου, ήταν ναυτικοί στα περισσότερα από 200 πλοία που είχαν εγκλωβιστεί στο έλεος του χιονιού.
